Statement of la Via CampesinaDijon, France - January, 13 2008
The member organizations of la Via Campesina gathered in Dijon, France state that all bilateral and bi-regional free-trade agreements, be they called «Tratados de libre-comercio » (TLC), « Free-trade agreements » (FTA) or «Economic Partnership Agreements » (EPAs), are of the same nature. They lead to the plundering of natural resources and only serve transnational companies at the expense of all the world's peoples and environment. These are not partnership agreements but Economic Plundering Agreements.

The World Social Forum emerged seven years ago as an alternative to the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland. Usually, thousands of activists activist from all over the world gather to protest and to share ideas about the alternatives to neoliberal policies and practices. This year however, instead of gorganising a forum, the social movements are organising activities in their respective countries under the common call for a Global day of Action on January the 26th. The objective is to show to the world that people's resitance to the neoliberal model is preading all over the world.

The meeting aims to exchange experiences between peasants, in order to take advantage of the presence of farmers from 20 countries in Indonesia who are taking part in the parallel activities to the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP 13).
La Vía Campesina had participated in a march on Saturday in the region of Kuta, in Bali, to demand climate justice and responsible measures of the industrialized countries governments to tackle climate change. Real World Radio was there and interviewed a member of La Via CampesinaCelso Rivero, who is also state leader of the Rural Landless Workers' Movement (MST) in the west of Parana.
